Debt Free How Would You Like To Feel

Powerful, serene, calm, peaceful, whole, complete, satisfied, empowered with unlimited possibilities. How would you like to feel like this? Would it not be absolutely fantastic. At AMS I often speak about debt not being a permanent state but a temporary state. If something is bad and its permanent first of all that would be a very bad place to be in, but debt is not that place. It’s not easy but debt issues can be solved with the right debt solution.

However and this is the important part. Someone who is overweight and who starts to eat a healthy balanced diet with regular exercise will lose weight. That same person though if they start to eat the wrong things and stop exercising will put weight back on. Yo Yo effect. Never getting and maintaining their ideal weight. Lots of similarities with debt issues, unless the person in debt realises why they got into debt and what they need to do to permanently stay out of debt the issues will re-occur, just like the weight goes back on in the case of the yo yo effect, the bank balance goes out the wrong way if you don’t get to the causes with a permanent solution.

What we would like to help our clients do (but only if they are willing, if they want us to come up with the right debt solution for them and ONLY concentrate on the financials then that is also great) is focus on a positive target. In other words help our clients eliminate limiting beliefs and help them to focus on the positive.

TARGET FIXATION

If your in debt right now and anxiety is making life a misery right now (remember this feeling you are feeling is not and never will be a permanent state) write down exactly how you would like to be feeling. Forget your current state. Put down on paper what you would like your life to be like and keep everything positive, don’t put “Not be in debt” but put “Be wealthy” instead. Even if that feels like a million miles away right now, write it down. Fixate on the positive, fixate on what you want to happen and not on what you don’t want to happen !

Question – How many times per day do you fixate on what you don’t want to happen and not what you want to happen? Don’t miss, don’t drop, I hope it does not rain, i’m going to be late, my cards going to get declined, I am going overdrawn etc etc etc

I once had a valuable lesson in this from an unexpected source. I was having an advanced motoring lesson from someone who worked for the government. Their main role was visiting motoring crash sites where there had been a fatality ( I know very sombre) and they had to work out why the accident had been fatal. Many times the reason the crash was fatal was down to target fixation. How many trees, lamp posts, telegraph poles (recently I saw a red post box) have become shrines to those that have died?

How the gentlemen explained it was that in those final seconds the driver fixates on the tree, in other words they fixate on what they don’t want to happen “my God the tree” and unfortunately and sadly they hit the tree and they die. What they should be focusing on instead is the gap. On a lighter note how many times do footballers (and some of them far too highly paid) hit the ball straight at the goalkeeper. All that goal to go at and they blast it straight at the keeper….again target fixation.

Lets now think about the list of words that this blog started with : Powerful, serene, calm, peaceful, whole, complete, satisfied, empowered with unlimited possibilities. Now write down what you want to happen and how you will be feeling and do this everyday for 21 days. Fixate on the right target. Eliminate limiting beliefs and replace those beliefs with those beliefs that will really help you through your life. You created the beliefs that made you miserable in the first place anyway……yes you did. You chose the meaning you gave to events and if you chose them then you can re-look at those events today and give them a whole new meaning……yes you can.

It’s right for kids to give meaning to things they see and experience, that’s how we make our way in the world. However unfortunately we often as children give a meaning to a series of events that will limit us in later life, beliefs only exist in our heads, remember that. We create the reality in which we live in.
